I am a junior at Luther College studying Elementary Education with a focus in science and middle school. I am a member of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA) and attend Focus (our campus student-led worship group) whenever I can. And, like Katie, I also play softball for the Norse. Softball has a played a significant role in my life for about as long as I can remember and consumes the majority of my free time so it’s an important aspect of my life that I want to work on better aligning with my faith journey.
For the majority of my life I have worshiped at the same small Methodist church and although I don’t necessarily identify with the traditions of this particular denomination, I will say that I firmly believe that Jesus Christ is my Savior and that I have been rescued repeatedly by his endless love. Because of my church, unlike a lot of people out there I was fortunate enough to come to know Jesus at an early age, but all too often I have taken this blessing for granted and I think that this has likely attributed to the many times that I have strayed from my faith.
I have experienced many extended periods of time during which I have ridden a so-called “Jesus High” as well as periods during which I have also questioned the very existence of God. Currently I am closer to the “Jesus High” end of the spectrum, but I want my faith to play a more central role in my life than it does right now. In order to get to that point, I still have to nail down exactly what it is that I believe in regards to God, the Bible, and the Church and learn how to incorporate my faith into all aspects of my life. My hope for this blog is that I will be able to unravel my thoughts about various issues regarding these topics and that potentially I may come to see things in a new light as a result of a discussions with some of you.
